About Teacup Persians

In spite of what you may read on the internet, genuine Teacup Persians DO exist. They are extremely rare. Grumpy, Smush Face, Teacup Persians are even rarer. Teacup Persians, DO NOT fit into Teacups when they are full grown. The term "Teacup" is a descriptor that originated in the dog world. A "Teacup" pet is approximately 1/3 the size of a standard. There are even Teacup Pigs. Standard Persians are bred to be large, heavy-boned cats that typically weigh about 15 pounds. Therefore, a 5 pound Persian is a "Teacup" Persian. Teacup Persian is not a recognized breed. Our cats CFA papers describe our cats as PERSIANS. As of this writing, Teatime is the only Grumpy Teacup Kitten breeder in the United States. Because Teacups are rare and they sell for thousands of dollars each, there are many online scams regarding them. Everything from scammers stealing photos from the websites of standard Persian breeders and accepting money for kittens that they are not even in possession of, to unethical breeders starving standard sized Persians down to Teacup weight in order to charge higher prices for them. It has been said that what Teacup Persian breeders are doing is breeding dwarfs and runts. I can’t speak for other breeders, but our Teacups are not the result of breeding runts OR of dwarfism. Our Teacups are the result of careful downsizing. Like humans, some cats, though healthy, are just smaller than others. We literally searched the world for small, healthy Persian cats and selected our foundation cats from the best of them. We specialize in breeding genuine Teacup Persian kittens, providing you with the assurance of quality and authenticity. We are dedicated to producing true Teacup Persians ethically. We prioritize the health and well-being of our cats while ensuring that they meet the distinctive Teacup size criteria. Unlike cats with dwarfism, the life expectancy of our cats is the same as that of their standard counterpart. As I mentioned earlier, our first Teacup Persian, Honey, lived to be 14 years old. We encourage potential buyers to be cautious. Beware of Teacup Persian breeders who only post photos of kittens on their website and/or social media. A reputable Teacup Persian breeder should be able to display a photo of a Teacup sized adult if they are producing genuine Teacups.
