About Teacup Persians
What They Are, What They Aren't
Genuine Teacup Persians do exist—despite what you may read online—but they are extremely rare. Smush Face Teacup Persians are even rarer. The term “Teacup” does not mean these cats fit in a teacup when grown; it refers to size. A Teacup pet is typically about one-third the size of a standard. Since standard Persians often weigh around 15 pounds, a 5-pound Persian falls into the Teacup category.
The CFA (Cat Fanciers’ Association) does not recognize Miniature Persians; our cats are registered simply as Persians. Terms like Toy, Tiny, Micro, or Pocket are often used, but we use “Teacup” because it’s the most widely recognized description of this level of miniaturization.
As of now, Teatime is the only breeder in the United States specializing in Smush Face Teacup Persians. Due to their rarity and value, scams are unfortunately common—ranging from stolen photos to unethical practices like underfeeding standard cats to reduce their size.
Our Teacup Persians are not runts and are not the result of dwarfism. They are carefully bred from naturally small, healthy Persian lines selected from around the world. Like people, some cats are simply smaller by nature. Our breeding program focuses on preserving health, structure, and longevity while achieving true Teacup size.
Our cats have the same life expectancy as standard Persians and are raised with a strong emphasis on ethical breeding and overall well-being.
We encourage buyers to be cautious. A reputable breeder should be able to show fully grown Teacup adults—not just kittens—as proof of genuine Teacup lines.

About Teatime - Our Origin Story
I first discovered Teacup Persians over 25 years ago when my daughter came across an ad in Cat Fancy magazine for Toyland Miniature Persians. Hoping to surprise her with a kitten, I called right away—only to learn none were available.
Years later, we found a Cream and White Smush Face Teacup Persian who was already a year old but weighed just 3 pounds. We named her Honey, and she lived a happy 14 years. After she passed, we began searching for another Smush Face Teacup like her—but could only find long-nosed “Doll Face” types.
After years of searching, I finally found another Smush Face Teacup female, and the breeder offered her with breeding rights. Not long after, I was incredibly fortunate to find a Black male Smush Face Teacup—something even rarer—and was again granted breeding rights.
I registered the name TEATIME with the Cat Fanciers’ Association, and about a year later, we welcomed our first litter of Miniature Persian kittens.
We may be considered rebels in the Persian world for breeding miniatures—and in the Teacup world for focusing on Smush Face lines—but we are passionate about bringing more cats like Honey into the world.
